This project was a full asphalt shingle roof replacement for a single-family split-level home in Kent (98032). The homeowner’s roof had reached the end of its lifespan and needed a complete replacement.
For the replacement, we installed CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Moire Black — a bold, clean color that works beautifully on a split-level roofline and will hold up for decades to come.

Homeowner’s Challenge
The existing roof had reached end-of-life and needed to be fully replaced to protect the home going forward. With a split-level roofline involving both one- and two-story sections, getting the installation right across varying roof planes was an important part of the job.
Our Inspection Findings
Our inspection turned up some minor woodwork that needed to be addressed before the new roof could go down. Taking care of the deck first ensures the new shingles have a solid, stable foundation and that the investment lasts as long as it should.
What We Did
This was a full tear-off and rebuild approach to ensure the new roof replacement system was installed correctly from the deck up.
Roof replacement scope included:
- Full tear-off
- Replaced underlayment using 30 lb. felt
- Added RVO38 roof vents for ventilation, along with new kitchen and bath vents
- Replaced pipe flashing with new lead flashing
- Installed new metal flashing in the valleys and roof-to-wall areas
- Woodwork repairs as needed
- Final cleanup including a full magnet sweep

The roof needed more repairs than we thought so I expected the bill to be a thousand dollars more than the quote. It was only 200 more and I was thrilled. The clean-up was perfect. I didn’t find anything left behind. They even swept the lawn with magnets to get every last nail. I have already recommended them to two friends. I hope I never have to get a new roof but if I do they are the only company I will call.
